Many landlords can start eviction and debt proceedings in Texas this week under a state Supreme Court order lifting the moratorium on evictions for renters because of the coronavirus pandemic. Some experts are warning there could be a surge in evictions with the record high of unemployment claims and since Texas doesn’t have as many protections for tenants as other states. Renters in Houston and San Antonio could be particularly at risk because those cities have not offered nor extended renter protections like other major Texas cities.
