The sector, which is responsible for more than a quarter of carbon emissions in France or Europe, has a major role to play in terms of carbon emissions linked to the construction of cities (buildings, facilities, infrastructures, etc.) and in terms of consumption patterns that it will determine, since it shapes the places where we live and work. Jean Jouzel, climatologist and honorary member ofBBCA Association, recalled this at the 2nd edition of the Low Carbon Real Estate Exhibition (Sibca), held last September: “If we continue to build on a global scale, as we have done in the last 50 years, while we need to properly house 3 billion additional inhabitants, construction alone would capture about half of what we have left to emit and generate several tens of additional degrees.”
